Hello and welcome to Thyme to Mango, a food blog dedicated to great tasting, kick-ass food and recipes. I want to take a moment to thank you for stopping by and please feel free to have a look around.
When it comes to food blogging I’m self-taught and this blog is my journey in becoming the best recipe developer, photographer, writer and blogger I can be. To share this with all you amazing people is the greatest feeling ever!
Thyme to Mango is all about and real food using fresh ingredients to produce the best food possible. I do not have a specific food niche so what you will find here is more a reflection of what I get up to in my kitchen. You can expect to find fast prep meals for those hectic weekday nights, the more gourmet recipes for those weekends spent in the kitchen, and everything else in between.
If there is something I enjoy as much as food it is travelling so most recipes are inspired by one exotic cuisine or another.
When I’m not blogging you will find me sitting at my piano (I’m an enthusiastic amateur), hunting down chocolate, spending time with my partner and four-legged children, watching Netflix, drinking wine or buried nose deep in a book.
This blog used to go by the name “The Nude-Food Hero”, dedicated to making food from scratch with as little processed ingredients as possible. Although Thyme to Mango does not adhere to this rule as strictly as its predecessor, this is still the way I go about making recipes in my own kitchen for I would much rather spend the extra time (and sometimes money) to make my own food rather than reaching for that jar, can or packet.
Although there is obviously a health benefit to using whole foods rather than processed ingredients laced with added sugars, preservatives and other fancy chemicals, the made-from-scratch thing is mostly my enjoyment of being in the kitchen and making my own kick-ass food (the health aspect is a perk!) because homemade food is always better, right?
So, although I do approach recipes from a made-from-scratch perspective – and try and stay away from things like heavily processed sugars and flours – I do not advocate Thyme to Mango as a health food blog. I also believe the occasional indulgence never hurt anyone.
The Thyme to Mango Household
I’m lucky enough to have my own personal support team and entourage helping me in every department of this blog from taste-testing to dish cleaning.
The Paramedic is the official Thyme to Mango Taste Tester and you can be sure a recipe will not be posted on here until it receives his stamp of approval.
He is also my partner of 9 years and my accomplice in all travel, food and Netflix-marathon-watching related activities ( and, yes, he is an actual Paramedic, this is not just some weird and random nickname 🙂 )
Khan is our handsome Siberian Husky who much prefers a cuddle on the couch than any form of overly strenuous exercise . He’s a stubborn creature who always tries to get his own way (and will kick up a fuss when he doesn’t get it).
He’s a very vocal dog; he howls at sirens (fire trucks only) and will engage us in lengthy, husky-language conversations concerning his levels of hunger and his “desperate” need for attention. Khan’s favourite foods are Kangaroo meat, tomatoes, carrots and anything he can steal from the veggie patch
Our pint-sized, wonky-eared mongrel (there’s Kelpie, Labrador and a few other things swirled up in there). She’s the princess of the house and will successfully use her cuteness to get away with, almost, everything.
But don’t let her size fool you. She still has plenty of energy after running a half marathon (she’s run several), and easily excavated two tonnes – yes TWO TONNES! – of soil from our backyard in a matter of weeks (make that days). When it comes to food Mace really isn’t fussy and will eat pretty much anything… oh, except lettuce for some reason.
