Chickpeas – aren’t they the best?
You can throw them into a food processor with garlic, olive oil and tahini and in minutes you have creamy, garlic-breath inflicting hummus, piled high on crackers or soft turkish bread. Or you can add them to stews or slow-cooker meals or salads… anything!
They really are tasty, versatile little things and I ❤️ them!
(And, talking about slow cookers I’m so excited because winter is fast approaching this southern hemisphere area of the world – not usually a thing to get excited about – and that means nothing but slow-cooked meals – *foodie swoon*. Every day I open the kitchen cupboard and stare lovingly at my slow cooker, my soul all warm and fuzzy because I know it’s not long until I pull it out from its dark kitchen-cupboard home and make nothing but slow cooked meals, each and every day.)
But – random slow-cooker tangent over – you could always toss the chickpeas in a little oil and a pinch of spices and herbs (and, of course, by pinch I mean rounded tablespoons of the stuff because – hello flavour! ??), and throw them into the oven so they roast and become crunchy and burst with indescribable amounts of flavour.
Yeah, um, is it snack time yet? Because I want me a bowl of these chickpeas right now…
And not only do I want a big bowl of roasted chickpeas to slowly stuff my face with (and seeing as chickpeas are from a plant – and come with the natural goodness of olive oil and spices I have no shame in devouring an entire batch in a single, face-stuffing session) but I want roasted chickpeas that have been rolled in the smoky, herby, slightly sweet explosion of BBQ.
Thankfully, I have just the thing to cure that craving and – seeing as you are craving it too because you’ve just been reading about it – I’m going to share it with you:
BBQ seasoning. If you were around a few weeks ago I threw yet another quick and easy herb and spice blend at you with the promise that this would totally turn up the heat on your BBQ flavoured foods and, not to brag or anything, but so far – in my kitchen – it has been doing just that.?
And I want it to start doing the same for you too!
Before you get a little worried (I too get worried when I see a so-called “quick-and-easy” recipe that contains more than ten ingredients) because, although there is 12 ingredients, they are nothing but herbs and spices (plus the optional brown sugar) – alternatively seen as a single stop in your mad dash around the supermarket.
Better yet, some of the ingredients you may even have sitting at home – maybe all of them? If the latter is the case then making your own BBQ seasoning is going to be a piece of cake (mental note to self: using cake as analogy for BBQ seasoning doesn’t quite work – who wants a BBQ flavoured cake – why am I still typing?????)
A few minutes of measuring out the herbs and spice and – oh, I don’t know – the 3 to 5 seconds to stir it all together and you have BBQ flavoured awesomeness in your kitchen.
It will taste so much better than the jar of BBQ seasoning you were thinking of buying from the supermarket because a) you made it yourself (always tastes better☺️) and b) there is no rice flour or other strange fillers bulking it out.
None of that stuff here: just 100% herbs and spices. ??
But let’s not let the excitement of the world’s best BBQ seasoning herb and spice blend distract us from todays recipe: namely, chickpeas rolled and roasted in the world’s best BBQ seasoning herb and spice blend. ?
Once you’ve thrown together the BBQ seasoning – or bought a store-bought jar, whatever ? – all you need to do is sprinkled it over the chickpeas with a dash of olive oil, mix to coat and throw into the preheated oven.
Then the hardest part is waiting the 30 minutes for these babies to cook (pro tip: distract yourself with an episode of “Friends” and, by the time it is over, the chickpeas should just about be ready.) And when their done get ready to stuff your face with a delicious (and healthy) snack that will keep you going until dinner time!
